Both programs are administered under Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Work experience or academic competencies in the area of education with an emphasis on early childhood, secondary education, or teacher training preferred
  • Capacity to perform an analytical evaluation that requires strong skills in reading comprehension and the ability to effectively express your analysis in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and conduct quality analysis within limited timeframes
  • A minimum of basic computer literacy, particularly in the application of Microsoft Word and a capacity to type at least 30 words per minute with reasonable accuracy
  • American Indian and/or Alaska Native candidates preferred

Note: Approved readers must have access to the Internet as all scoring and comments are completed online.

If you are interested in participating in this grant review process, please apply online and submit your resume and brief cover letter with contact information. Because of a potential for conflicts of interest, candidates whose organizations are applying for a discretionary grant this year will not be eligible to participate as field readers for the grant category for which the application is submitted. Candidates who may be ineligible this year are encouraged to apply in subsequent years as grant reviewing is a valuable experience, particularly for individuals interested in submitting a grant application in the future.

The discretionary grant review is scheduled to take place April 12-16, 2010 with the initial travel day April 11. Prospective candidates should confirm their availability for these dates prior to submitting their application. Candidates will go through a two-step selection process; the first notification will be a tentative selection, the second will be notification that you are approved as a field reader. The final selection of readers is based on the total number of applications that must be read.

The review process will entail having the applications mailed to approved readers (on or about March 20), readers will enter all scores and comments for each application assigned online through the Department’s e-Reader system prior to the review dates, and discussions on each application will be held onsite in Norman. Approved readers will need to devote the time required to review, score and enter their comments between approximately March 21 until April 11.

For consideration as a field reader, please complete the application at and upload your resume and cover letter no later than Dec. 4, 2009.
