Facts from NIES
The 2007 National Indian Education Study (NIES) was conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics on behalf of OIE. Part I focuses on the performance of AI/AN 4th- and 8th-graders on the 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress in reading and math. Part II presents information about the educational, home, and community experiences of the students represented in Part I.

NIES 2007 Part II: Learning Factors

Compared to AI/AN students from low density schools, lower percentages of students attending high density schools (38% at grade 4 and 31% at grade 8) reported having no absences from school in the past month. more

NIES 2007 Part II: Teachers of AI/AN Students

In BIE schools, 20-29% of teachers described themselves as fluent native speakers compared to 2-4% in public schools.

2009 Partnerships for Indian Education Conference

The 2009 national conference provided an opportunity for Indian education partners at all levels to participate and engage in an effective dialogue for addressing the issues facing American Indian and Alaska Native students, their schools, families, and communities. View detailed agenda
